Gairtney Guest House provides a relaxing and comfortable base from which to explore Wild Mountain Country.

 

Gairtney's location is truly special and gives you the feeling of being deep in the mountains, despite being one of the most accessible farms in the area. Gairtney is situated on the stunningly beautiful Joubert's Pass (the third highest in South Africa) but just 1km from the tar road so can be easily reached with any vehicle.

 

This comfortable self-catering cottage has gorgeous views of the dam and mountains and the beautiful well-maintained gardens are a riot of colour.  

 

 

 

Gairtney's well appointed cottage sleeps 4 and is ideal for families or small groups. Facilities include:

  • Double room and adjoining twin bedded room
  • Comfortable and spacious lounge
  • Fully-equipped kitchen with electric stove, microwave and fridge/freezer
  • Bathroom with bath and separate shower
  • Terrace and braai area (wood provided)
  • Beautiful gardens overlooking pretty dam - guests are welcome to pick their own vegetables from the veggie garden for dinner!
  • The cottage has family-friendly adjoining rooms and parents will be able to truly relax whilst their children run around in freedom and safety. We offer discounted rates for under 12s.

 

 

There are plenty of activities to enjoy in the Eastern Cape Highlands including hiking trails, hunting for partridge or buck, fly-fishing, horse riding, river rafting, mountain bike hire and scenic drives. The birding is exceptional and trips to the nearby Cape Vulture breeding colony can be arranged.

DIRECTIONS TO GAIRTNEY GUEST HOUSE

From Gauteng, PE, East London, Bloemfontein
Travel on the N6 Bloemfontein-East London and turn on R58 to Lady Grey and Barkly East. Drive past the Lady Grey turnoff and travel for 30km on the R58 until you reach a left hand turning signed Lady Grey via Joubert's Pass. Gairtney Guest House is the first farm on the right hand side (1km).

 

From Barkly East, Rhodes, Elliot, Maclear
Travel from Barkly East towards Aliwal North on the R58. After 40km take the right hand turning signed Lady Grey via Joubert's Pass. Gairtney Guest House is the first farm on the right hand side (1km)
