SCENIC DRIVESWinter is a spectacular time of year to drive the 8 Passes of the Eastern Cape Highlands and unless there has been very recent heavy snowfall, roads are generally open for you to enjoy scenic views of snow-capped mountains. We can advise at the time on weather and road conditions on the various passes -following local advice is a 'must'.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIESOutdoor activities are available throughout the winter for those who want to get out and fill their lungs with crisp mountain air. Options include hiking, horse riding and mountain biking and motorbike/quad trails for those with their own vehicles.

PHOTOGRAPHYClear air and stunning views mean that the Eastern Cape Drakensberg is a mecca for keen scenery photographers. Starry nights are ideal for star trails and macro photographers can enjoy experimenting on icy crystal formations. We run regular photography workshops for those who wish to improve their skills. |

STAR-GAZINGThe area's high altitude and lack of light pollution means that star-gazing in the Eastern Cape Drakensberg is exceptional, especially in winter months. We can provide star maps to help you find some of the major constellations. Alternatively, have a few drinks on the terrace and invent a few new patterns of your own! |

SNUGGLE-UP!After a fun-filled day in the winter mountains, snuggle up with your loved ones in front of a roaring log fire, perhaps with a glass of sherry or Gluhwein in hand. All of the guest houses in the area are well equipped for our cold winters, and most offer open fireplaces, heaters and electric blankets.
